This 7-month position (March 1st through September 15th, 2023) is designed to expose the intern to many aspects of both general and advanced reproductive techniques. Along with constant tutelage over the management of stallions and mares, there will also be a strong emphasis on gaining practical experience. By the end of the internship, the intern should have the confidence and ability to perform and manage reproductive services in any future situation.
Internship Duties:
Primary responsibilities of this position involve palpation, ultrasonography, artificial insemination with fresh, cooled and frozen semen, reproductive evaluations of the stallion and mare, subfertility management, semen collection and processing for shipment, embryo recovery and transfer, and foaling. Additional exposure will include semen freezing and transvaginal aspiration of oocytes. Some non-reproductive duties will involve general health maintenance of the client horses and recipient herd. This position is designed to do independent work after adequate supervised training has been established. The majority of time (~90%) will be spent performing services at the clinic however there will be occasional duties performed on-farm (~10%) as needed. Collaboration with colleagues and client communication will become routine.
Compensation for the position:
Free on-site housing along with a $4,000/month base salary and a percentage of gross income shared. Monthly salary amount includes reimbursement for PLIT and health insurance.

Applicant must have passed the national boards/NAVLE exam and obtain a Virginia veterinary license.
