Best Friends Animal Hospital is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to join our progressive small animal practice. At Best Friends Animal Hospital, we are committed to supporting learning and growth as well as provide mentorship. Someone with an interest to learn alternative medicines or exotics on their own is encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate for this role would be able to perform surgery, evaluate emergent patients, perform annual examinations, order appropriate tests and provide a diagnosis and treatment plan.
As a veterinarian at Best Friends Animal Hospital you will enjoy a three to four-day flexible schedule with one rotating Saturday per month and limited on call hours. This position is for thirty hours per week but we are open to your needs as well. Our on call service is only in the evenings after your surgeries until 10pm and it is a phone consultation only. Call volume is approximately 2 phone calls per year. We work closely with a local emergency clinic to refer support after-hours. Many employees realize that this is a demanding job however, we all have family we want to be able to take care of as well. Most of our staff has been with the practice for 5-20 years. Our doctors have a combined 46 years of experience between them, so you can feel confident you are joining an established practice, rooted in the community.
Best Friends has a large building with a beautiful view of farmland from the oversized windows in the lobby. Equipped with 5 exam rooms there is plenty of space for each doctor to run exams. Several exam rooms have lift tables for ease of patient lifting and the fifth exam room is equipped with home comforts for laser therapy and end of life appointments. There is a fully stocked surgical suite and treatment area with a dedicated x-ray room. Anesthesia machines, oxygen cage and concentrator, electrocautery unit, digital dental and full body x-ray are all available for your use.
Grow with us – Our team is comprised of one full-time and two part-time vets, five support staff, 2 receptionists and the hiring manager. We offer preventive care vaccinations, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, laser therapy, digital x-ray, in-house blood work, Idexx send out bloodwork, PAW plans, grooming and boarding services. We are open to adding new services you are interested in bringing in order to further grow the practice.
Historical and quaint Chambersburg is a rural town with all the necessary amenities, yet still all the small town charm. It is situated within easy driving distance to Washington DC, Baltimore and Pittsburgh.
History buffs will enjoy learning about Chambersburg’s rich history at their Heritage Center located in Memorial Square, planning a trip to Gettysburg, the John Brown House, or the Franklin County Historical Society to learn about Chambersburg’s involvement in the Civil War.

Skills and Qualifications:
Candidate must be a graduate from an AVMA accredited college or have successfully passed the ECFVG certification program or the PAVE certification. License in good standing to practice in Pennsylvania.
