As Medical Director at West Loop Veterinary Care you will be the veterinarian who is empowered as a leader of the hospital. The Medical Director will report to the Chief Operating Officer. This position is charged with a major leadership role in the Hospital. The Medical Director will create and guide the quality and culture of the hospital and is tasked with exemplifying the hospital’s standards, mission, and vision with an ownership mentality.
West Loop Veterinary Care is an immaculate, state-of-the-art, American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited, and Cat Friendly Certified practice conveniently located near public transportation in Chicago’s West Loop Neighborhood. Our positive environment is made up of a compassionate and enthusiastic team consisting of 9 doctors and 40+ support staff including Hospital Attendants, Assistants, and Technicians. In addition to the duties fulfilled as an Associate Veterinarian, Medical Directors are more deeply involved and responsible for owning the following five areas:
LEADERSHIP OF PEOPLE • Mentor and train associate veterinarians; conduct weekly mentorship meetings with associate veterinarian team members as an opportunity to coach, develop and drive exceptional client and patient care • Evaluate associate veterinarian performance at least twice annually, helping the doctor’s set and achieve goals as well as monitor progress • Lead by example • Meet with Associate DVMs individually at least once monthly to discuss case review, new techniques, procedures, and medications, as well as remove obstacles and drive engagement. • Foster a mindset of ownership
MANAGEMENT OF TASKS AND PROJECTS • Meet weekly with the COO with the goal of planning, optimizing efficiency and creating agendas for upcoming meetings. • As part of a leadership team, lead staff and team meetings with an agenda and minutes. • Support target-marketing strategies set forth by the Marketing team • Create doctors’ schedules and distribute by the 5th day of each month for the following month • Lead bi-weekly doctor meetings in a collaborative manner using an agenda and minutes • Develop functional proficiency in company driven technology platforms, not limited to but including scheduling platforms, Smartsheet and expense reporting systems • Every working shift, read emails and respond within 48 hours • Manage hospital medication decision-making to drive the standard of care West Loop Veterinary Care

FINANCIAL GOALS • Regularly review Key Performance Indicator reports with the Leadership Team and Associates. • Create financial goals and discuss methods to obtain them. • With the Leadership Team and Operations Team, evaluate future goals and methods to accomplish financial goals set. Regularly review the goals • Communicate the basic financial goals and vision to the staff and create acceptance through engagement, incentives, and other initiatives that drive understanding of financials.
PATIENT CARE • Promote active learning amongst doctors in the hospital • Create, promote, attend, and facilitate regular medical case discussions • Set an example of exceeding client expectations and providing exceptional medical care • With the direction and assistance of the COO and Marketing Team, address client feedback. Use feedback to drive improvements in client service • Develop and maintain hospital internal protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, and medical Standards of Care with the goal of providing high quality, consistent patient care and client service. Train and hold the team accountable through consistent auditing of medical records and documented feedback.
