The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the national not-for-profit association established in 1863 and representing over 99,500 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia and uniformed services, is seeking an Assistant Director to join our Veterinary Career Center team at our Headquarters office in Schaumburg, IL, a northwest suburb of Chicago.
The Assistant Director will be responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing management of career development programs, tools and resources for AVMA members, veterinary students, pre-veterinary students, veterinary technicians, and the veterinary profession. They will work with the Director of Veterinary Career Services to develop and implement the ongoing strategy for AVMA’s online job board, the Veterinary Career Center (VCC) in support of AVMA’s overall strategy. They will also work to identify, establish, and maintain key partnerships to ensure the VCC’s role as the veterinary profession’s leading talent acquisition and career development resource.

To be successful in this role, you must be highly collaborative and passionate about AVMA’s mission. Additional qualifications include:
- DVM/VMD or equivalent degree
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience including 1 year of clinical practice experience and supervisory experience, not-for-profit association experience preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills are required
- Excellent public speaking skills
- Must have demonstrated interest/experience with organized veterinary medicine
- Must have strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment
- Experience with budget development
- Must have strong computer skills (Word, Power Point, Excel, Prezi) including knowledge and experience with social media
- Must be able to work effectively independently and as part of a team
- Dependable, collaborative, flexible, adaptable self-starter who is self-motivated with a positive can-do attitude
