OVERVIEW: The Regional Operations Leader is the focal point of Companion’s relationships with our veterinarians and hospital teams. This individual will develop deep connectivity to their hospitals, with responsibility for ensuring that the culture and quality of Companion is consistently represented, as well as ensuring achievement of the goals for growth and performance for their portfolio of hospitals and their markets.
The ROD will support the Executive Leadership and Development Teams in delivering on Companion’s promise of being the best place for vets to care for pets through collaborative leadership, thoughtful deployment of resources and strategy and a focus on delivering a consistently excellent client experience to all of our pet families.
Ownership of the daily operations and performance of their Companion hospitals, consistently meeting or exceeding their goals for key financial metrics and client experience, as well as developing and deploying strategic improvements to hospital operations and growth initiatives
Proactive problem solving and dedicated support to ensure consistently excellent client experience and teammate engagement
Develop and empower the hospital leadership team, identifying opportunities to elevate skilled teammates and recruiting to address opportunities for growth and improvement
Partner with Business Development (M&A) and newly acquired hospital leadership teams to facilitate a smooth and positive integration process
Comprehensive assessment of their markets, with a robust understanding of the acquisition opportunities and competitive landscape

Location: Los Angeles, CA
The ROD will be the standard-bearer for the Companion values and culture within our hospitals and the primary point of contact between Companion leadership and our hospital veterinarians and operational teammates. They will play a critical role in ensuring that these relationships are positive and durable, building our brand and encouraging high quality practices to join Companion.
As an early hire of a rapidly evolving company, the ROD should be prepared to take on a variety of assignments and projects, and to actively contribute their perspective and concrete proposals for the development and improvement of our operations and acquisition strategies.
This position will have a high degree of visibility as a leader of Companion, with opportunities to represent Companion not only at our hospitals, but with our Board, prospective sellers, and at industry conferences.
COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE
8+ years of animal health operations and leadership experience required
Experience leading multi-site veterinary hospital operations strongly preferred
Exceptional relationship skills and a demonstrated ability to build vibrant, collaborative relationships with physicians and clinical teammates
Ability to quickly and accurately review financial statements, diagnose opportunities for improvement and execute on the resulting plan to drive positive performance
Track record of leading teams, including development and recruitment of talent and demonstrable improvement of performance
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously
Effective multi-tasking capability and ability to thrive in a fast-paced deadline driven, start-up environment
Ability to think critically and creatively, and accept, process and deliver feedback effectively
LANGUAGE, MATH AND REASONING
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial statements and demographic data
Ability to write reports, create compelling presentations in Power Point or similar software
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from veterinarians, hospital managers, Companion leadership and Board
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Graduate with a bachelor’s degree required
MBA or DVM strongly preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid driver license
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Familiarity with common veterinary hospital PMS and back-office accounting systems
This is a field-based position, with an expectation of 50%+ travel commensurate with region size
Consistent presence at the ROD’s practices necessary to manage operations and nurture relationships and connection with their Lead DVMs and hospital teams
Telecommuting is allowed.
