SoBran is seeking a Program Manager to serve at our facility in Poolesville, Maryland.
OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of a Program Manager at the NIHAC, Laboratory Animal Research Contract (LARC 8). These responsibilities include all activities required for the proper care and maintenance of on-site animals. The function of the Program Manager is to ensure that all contract staff assigned to each line item are is trained and proficient in such a way that the work is accomplished in accordance with DVR SOPs, policies and guidelines associated with the expectations of their position. This person is expected to be familiar with the day-to-day activities, personnel and issues within the LARC 8 Task Order. The Program Manager is to be forward thinking and create and assist in developing plans to enhance the learning abilities and performance of the staff supporting the SOW for LARC 8. The Program Manager must possess strong verbal communication, teaching skills and be knowledgeable of veterinary medical procedures, terminology and all aspects of animal facility operations.
Description of Duties:
Willingness to provide hands-on support in a fast-paced large animal facility
Must possess effective communication skills and interface effectively with customers to provide resolutions to operational issues/ concerns in an expeditious manner
Must maintain an effective level of communication with Division Director and corporate personnel
Manage, coordinate and submit all LARC 8 contract deliverables specified in the Statement of Work
Coordinate and conduct facility Quality Control inspections
Provide direct oversight of managers, veterinarians, research staff, trainer, technicians and animal care staff and assist in preparation of their annual performance appraisals
Assist with technical training, re-training, and cross training where and when needed according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Work directly with LARC 8 Trainer to identify and prioritize topics for weekly trainings in a way that ensures comprehension and retention
Ensure each employee is proficient and in compliance with current facility SOPs
Assist in new hires, transfers from other positions, or changes in job descriptions
Participate in interviews and selection of personnel
Develop and foster effective teamwork and mentor the management team
Distribute reports as needed to institutional contacts
Ensure a safe work environment for entire LARC 8 contract staff
Ensure the safety, security, and physical environment for all personnel
Report any abnormal conditions of the animal facilities to the Division Director as well as the clients when required
Perform other duties as assigned by Division Director
Schedule: All employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned, arrive to work at 7:00 am and depart at 3:30 pm M-F these hours may shift based on the workload. In addition, you will be expected to work extra hours during an emergency situation or if any unexpected situation arise until work is completed.
Required Experience: Have 7 years of experience in laboratory animal facility in the animal husbandry, technical proficiency, and employee development. Must have husbandry and technical proficiency with a variety of animal species, specifically non- human primates.
Required Education: Must have a, AS/BA/BS degree or equivalent experience. AALAS Certification at the LATG Level is required and CMAR certification is highly preferred.
