Description
Are you looking for hands-on clinical experience? We’ve got you covered!
PetWow is a busy, multi-location small animal practice with two locations in Northern Kentucky—just 10 minutes from downtown Cincinnati. In addition to our hospitals, we also serve clients on the road through our mobile exam rooms! Family-owned and operated for over 50 years, we’re proud to combine compassionate care with real-world learning opportunities for future veterinarians.
We believe that to truly feel confident, you can’t just sit on the sidelines—you have to get involved. Our goal is to give you as much hands-on experience as possible, tailored to your interests and career goals. Before your externship begins, we’ll discuss the areas you’d like to focus on and structure your experience accordingly.
Our 2-week Externship Program is organized into phases that create a well-rounded and hands on program:
Phase 1: Kick off your externship with immersive, guided training in client communication and essential clinical skills. From patient handling and anesthesia protocols to radiology, surgery support, and preventive care, this phase builds the foundation for confident, real-world veterinary practice.
Phase 2: Build on your skills through real-world surgical exposure and clinical practice while exploring the business side of veterinary medicine. From assisting in surgery and diagnostics to leadership training and career planning, this phase prepares you for success both in practice and beyond.
Program Wrap-Up: Conclude your experience with a closing lunch and debrief with PetWow’s Career Partner. You’ll share feedback, reflect on your progress, and receive personalized guidance for your next steps.
If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and learn from an experienced, supportive team—come join us! We do offer a housing stipend and food assistance, just ask! Check out and apply for student programs here!
