Description
About The Hermitage
Since 1965, The Hermitage has been Arizona's first no-kill animal shelter and remains the state's only accredited cat sanctuary. Our 9,000 square foot, cage-free facility houses 200+ cats at any given time and rescues over 700 cats annually. We are one of the few shelters in the United States serving as a sanctuary for cats with FIV (Feline Immune Deficiency Virus) and FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus).
Our mission is simple but profound: we believe every cat is adoptable and deserves a chance at a happy, healthy life. Here, each cat roams freely in designated sections of our shelter, including outdoor enclosed "catios," and is treated as an amazing, individual being.
What We Do
Provide comprehensive medical care for 200+ cats in our cage-free sanctuary environment
Manage health protocols for special populations, including FIV+ and FeLV+ cats
Conduct wellness exams, diagnostics, and treatment for incoming rescue cats
Perform spay/neuter surgeries and other necessary surgical procedures
Oversee preventive care, vaccinations, and parasite control programs
Address chronic conditions and provide quality-of-life care for long-term sanctuary residents
Collaborate with staff to ensure optimal health and comfort for every cat
Our Philosophy
We practice compassionate, individualized medicine rooted in the belief that every cat matters. Following our no-kill philosophy, we provide cats with medical care and a safe, loving home for as long as they need it — whether that's weeks or years.
