Position Overview: 
The Chief Veterinary Medical Officer (CVMO) provides strategic leadership and oversight for the clinical, educational, and research missions of the LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) and associated clinical programs. The CVMO ensures the highest standards of patient care, veterinary education, and research while fostering collaboration among faculty, staff, and students. This position plays a critical role in advancing the school's reputation and impact in veterinary medicine. 
***Suitably qualified applicants may be considered for faculty status. In this case, 90% of the role represents administration of the clinical enterprise and the remaining 10% may be devoted to other scholarship or clinical service.*** 
Job Responsibilities: 
35% Provide executive leadership for the veterinary medical teaching hospital, clinics, and clinical service programs. Work closely with the Dean and administrative leadership to align clinical operations with the LSU Vet Med mission and goals.
Promote a culture of innovation and excellence within the veterinary clinical enterprise. 
25% Develop and implement policies and procedures that enhance clinical operations, efficiency, and compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. 
Provide strategic oversight and interpretation of hospital financial performance to inform executive decision- making.
Advance strategic initiatives to enhance clinical caseload, financial sustainability, and operational effectiveness.
25% Collaborate with faculty and hospital leadership to support the professional development of clinical staff and faculty.
Ensure excellence in patient care, clinical education, and research initiatives.
Oversee quality assurance programs, risk management, and continuous improvement efforts.
10% Leads cross-functional collaboration with administrative units and campus partners to align operations with institutional priorities and enhance organizational effectiveness.
Represent the veterinary school and hospital in professional organizations and community partnerships.
Facilitate and maintain clear open communication channels with team members, stakeholders, and clients to build trust and strengthen relationships. 
5% Other duties as assigned. 
Minimum Qualifications: 
DVM or equivalent and ten (10) years of experience, and eligible for veterinary license in the state of Louisiana.
Specific Experience: 
- Progressive clinical program experience with at least five (5) years in leadership. 
- Demonstrated success leading clinical operations, building and leading high-performance teams, and ensuring effective budget management and financial stewardship.
 Preferred Qualifications:
 DVM and eleven (11) or more years of experience.
 Advanced training or certification in veterinary administration, business management, or a related field (e.g., MBA, MPH, MHA, MOB, or board certification in a clinical specialty).
 Specific Experience:
- Significant leadership experience in a veterinary teaching hospital, clinical setting, or academic environment.
- Experience in fundraising, donor relations, or securing external funding for clinical and research programs.
- Knowledge of emerging trends in veterinary education, hospital management, and animal healthcare.
 Additional Requirements:
 Safety and Security Sensitive Job - Safety and security-sensitive positions are defined as those positions where any form of substance abuse may affect University activities through unsafe work behavior/performance or error in judgment; or where substance abuse could jeopardize the safety and well-being of employees, other personnel, or the general public, or cause significant damage to university property. This includes positions requiring firearms, access to controlled substances, handling hazardous material, operating heavy equipment or machinery, etc. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
 Emergency Essential Personnel -This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.
 Cash Handling -This position has access to/directly handles cash. Financial history/credit check required per FASOP HR-04.
