Job Description: The Lead Veterinary Technician is responsible for aiding the veterinarians in overseeing the clinic medical staff. The Lead Veterinary Technician is responsible for supervision, scheduling, quarterly reviews, annual reviews and ongoing training of technicians and veterinary assistants, under the direction of the Lead Clinic Veterinarian.
oExecute sound and timely decision making regarding animal patients under the supervision of the Lead Clinic Veterinarian. oAssist in customer complaints and/or issues to resolve the issue in a professional manner oDetermine daily schedule and distribution of tasks for all veterinary technicians and assistants. oLead department meetings to review current procedures and prepare for the next day’s workload. oFamiliarity and ability to order appropriate levels of inventory when needed, process inventory intake by not only checking in supplies that arrive, but also entering into the AVImark software. oAssist Clinic Manager with regular inventory counts. oExecute disciplinary measures under the supervision of the Lead Clinic Veterinarian. oEnsure all animals in the department are being handled using the least restraint possible and maintain a low-stress interaction between staff and animals. oSupervise and implement medication of hospitalized animals according to current protocols. oMaintain current and accurate animal records into Avimark, the clinic software system. oAssist in surgeries as directed by the Veterinarian. oMaintain current and accurate controlled drug logs, including regular auditing and inventory checks with each veterinarian on staff. oEnsure the department is cleaned and sanitized daily and as necessary (i.e. after surgical procedures, spills, pet accidents, potential contamination, etc.). oProvide creative ideas to assist with patient flow, procedures, efficiency, etc. and present them to the Lead Clinic Veterinarian and Medical Director.
Other: oFollow and promote all HSP policies and philosophies in all interactions with staff, volunteers, and the public on and off site. oHandle any monetary transactions accurately and securely. oParticipate in staff and department meetings and training opportunities. oStay up to date with all procedure and policy changes. oFollow and promote to the public all HSP policies and philosophies. oHandle animals humanely and safely at all times. oDemonstrate a high quality of work standards and work ethics. oPerform other related duties as assigned by the Lead Clinic Veterinarian and Medical Director.
oMust be a Certified Veterinary Technician. oComfort handling all companion animals, primarily dogs and cats. oAbility to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and HSP clients, while keeping a positive work environment. oAbility to stand and/or walk for long periods of time and lift 40 pounds or more. oFamiliarity with Avimark or similar veterinary software. oKnowledge and ability to perform and educate all tasks/assignments on job descriptions of managed staff, including, but not limited to: Setting up/reading all in house labs, cytologies, cultures and blood smears; Proper protocols for sending off reference lab samples; Experience with dental and digital radiography; Dental prophy and charting; Phlebotomy and IV catheter placement; Patient triage and emergency care; Anesthesia monitoring, intubating, charting and pain management.
